 Reg. No. 87/21.1/13 (Act 101/1965)

Composition:

Ceporex Injection contains sodium cephalexin, equivalent to 180 mg per ml cephalexin.

Pharmacological action:
Cephalexin is a broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  Cephalexin is rapidly absorbed after injection. Peak blood concentrations are generally achieved within one hour of administration. Cephalexin is excreted in the urine in high concentration.

Indications:
Ceporex Injection is indicated for intramuscular or subcutaneous antibiotic therapy in cats and dogs.

The following micro-organisms have shown sensitivity to cephalexin in-vitro:

Staphylococcus aureus  (including penicillin-resistant strains)

Streptococcus spp.                                        Actinobacillus lignieresi

Corynebacterium spp.                                   Actinomyces bovis

Pasteurella spp.                                            Haemophilus  spp.

Escherichia coli                                             Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae

Proteus spp.                                                 Clostridium spp.

Peptostreptococcus spp.                               Salmonella spp.

Peptococcus spp.                                           Fusobacterium spp.

When susceptible organisms are present, Ceporex Injection is indicated in the treatment of infections of the respiratory tract, urogenital tract, the skin and localised infections in soft tissue in dogs and cats.

Contra-indications:
Hypersensitivity to cephalexin. Ceporex Injection should not be administered to animals which are known to be hypersensitive to cephalexin.

Warnings:
Ceporex Injection is not suitable for intravenous or intrathecal administration.

Ceporex is mainly excreted by the kidneys and nephrotoxocity and accumulation may occur when renal function is impaired. In cases of renal insufficiency the dose should be reduced.

Dosage and directions for use:
For intramuscular or subcutaneous injection

Shake well before use. Always use a dry syringe

In the presence of water, hydrolysis of cephalexin occurs. It is important, therefore that a dry syringe is used when extracting suspension for injection to avoid contaminating the remaining contents of the vial with drops of water.
